Victoria Meditation

Established in 1973, the Sri Chinmoy Centre of Victoria is located in the urban forest area of Oak Bay, with sandy beaches, woods, meadows and rocky climbs less than a kilometre from its doorstep—a true meditation paradise!

As students of Sri Chinmoy, we practise daily meditation, lead active, service-oriented lives and are dedicated to the goals of world harmony and oneness. Inspired by Sri Chinmoy and by the benefits of our own personal and group meditations, we provide free meditation classes and workshops throughout the year as a community service.

Victoria enjoys the best year-round climate in Canada for athletic training and our Centre enthusiastically supports the running community. In 1980, we inaugurated British Columbia’s first and now Canada’s longest running triathlon—the Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence Triathlon/Duathlon.

Sri Chinmoy himself was an avid and accomplished athlete with a special love for running. He often spoke of the outer running as a metaphor for the inner ‘spiritual’ running and encouraged everyone to set goals and explore their unlimited potential in order to find true happiness and fulfilment.

As one of three Sri Chinmoy Centres in the Pacific Northwest, Victoria is closely associated with the Sri Chinmoy Centres in Seattle, Washington and Vancouver, British Columbia. Annually, the Vancouver and Victoria Centres welcome the World Harmony Run to BC. Initiated in 1987 by Sri Chinmoy, this torch relay event provides an opportunity for individuals from all walks of life to celebrate harmony and oneness with people in over 100 nations throughout the world. Each year, everyone is invited to run and to hold the symbolic flaming Torch at various community events and along the relay route through the province.
