 Sri Chinmoy in Ottawa

During his many visits to Ottawa, Sri Chinmoy offered university lectures, free concerts, art exhibits and silent meditations for world peace. In 1994, a stirring exhibit of his one million ‘Peace-Bird’ drawings was held in a gallery in the Byward Market.

In 1999, he performed on over 30 different musical instruments before an audience of 7,500 at a free Peace Concert at Scotiabank Place. Sri Chinmoy also offered two Peace Concerts on Parliament Hill for members of the House of Commons, the Senate and the diplomatic community.

An article entitled "Sri Chinmoy Answers", which offers Sri Chinmoy's spiritual wisdom to life's everyday questions,  is featured monthly in Ottawa's Tone Magazine.

Local Activities

Over the past 28 years, the Sri Chinmoy Centre of Ottawa has been offering meditation classes, music concerts, Jharna Kala art exhibits and other cultural events all free of charge.

The Sri Chinmoy Centre is an active contributor of clothing, medical and educational supplies, and food to nations worldwide through the Oneness-Heart-Tears and Smiles humanitarian service program.

We also sponsor weekly and annual Self-Transcendence races such as a 2 mile fun run every Saturday morning starting at 8:00 a.m. under the Laurier Ave. bridge and an annual 6, 12 & 24 Hour Race in July at the Asticou Centre in Gatineau, QC.  As well, the national welcoming ceremony for the Peace Run (global torch relay) is a biennial event in Ottawa.

Enterprises and Cafes

Members of the Sri Chinmoy Centre of Ottawa own and operate several businesses in the city. These include Phulero Dola, a beautiful flower store in the World Exchange Plaza; the Peace Garden, a coffee shop in the Byward Market; and the The Garden of Light gift store at 1099 Bank Street that offers singing bowls, crystals & stones, beautiful scarves and meditation cushions.
